Day Two, San Juan

After breakfast, we left the hotel to do some exploring and discovered that there is a children's museum, basically a Puerto Rican version of the Discovery Museum, in the plaza right in front of our hotel. If not for all of those Spanish classes, I never would have paid any attention the building it is in, but it turned out to be a great find. Juliet was in her element, climbing, hogging toys, and channeling her great-grandfathers in the firefighters' house. It was a super cute place and we were so happy to have found it.

After playtime, we walked around Old SJ, had lunch, and went to see El Morro. In front of the fort is a huge lawn area where dozens of families were flying kites. In town the streets are so narrow that there is no wind, but out in the open, right on the sea, the wind really whips around. I don't know if I have ever seen so many kites in one place!

After a break from the heat in the hotel courtyard, we decided to collect our things and head to the ship by taxi. The traffic in Old SJ is like nothing I have ever seen before. I was not at all concerned about Juliet's lack of a car seat because I don't think we ever went faster than 7 miles per hour. Seriously. Never.

The check in process was a breeze and all there was left to do was unpack and find our way around our home for the next week. Juliet fell asleep in the stroller for the lifeboat drill and when we returned to the cabin with only Michael's key, we discovered that his key didn't work and ended up locked out of the cabin for about 3o minutes while Mike waited in line at the front desk and I prayed that our room steward would appear. Once in, we all crashed out, looking forward to our first stop, St. Thomas.
