Day five, Barbados

Barbados was a fun stop, but we were disappointed that our beach time was cut short. The water was warm and so beautiful; it's hard to get enough! We started our day with a drive to the Wildlife Reserve. On the way we stopped at a little lookout point/tourist trap - I guess the driver gets kickbacks for stopping because I couldn't quite figure out why we were there (but Juliet didn't seem to mind - note big girl slide).

When we reached the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, Michael had to step in and save Juliet from the green monkeys. They were fun to watch, but I definitely didn't want to get too close!

You really have to watch where you are going when you walk around the reserve or you are likely to step on, or kick over, a tortoise - they are EVerywhere! Juliet loves animals, so she was in her element, pointing at all of the animals and making her "look at that, mommy/daddy" grunt.

My favorite animals were the Patagonian Maras. They are monogamous, mating for life, and may produce three or four litters (usually two young) per year (whew!). They look like a cross between a rabbit and a deer. The maras were everywhere and we found it especially cute when we saw one in the feed house snuggled in right next to a tortoise.

The iguanas are HUGE!!

The beach we went to was adjacent to the Malibu Rum factory. Luckily I am pregnant, or it could have been an expensive day! They make the most heavenly, coconutty, yummy banana rum smoothie. Some day (in July!!) I will try to replicate them.

This photo shows why Mike has insisted that before our next vacation we quarantine Juliet for a week (note perpetually snotty nose).

sushi time!

Juliet didn't quite know what to make of the towel animals in our room each night, but she did seem to like the bunny.

There were some scary moments there when the monkeys almost attacked Juliet! You trip looks amazing. It was good to see you. Hopefully we can see eachother again in July or August when I can meet the next one!
