Hello San Juan

After a very long night of travel via Atlanta, we arrived in San Juan to a beautiful sunny day. The cab ride to the hotel was our first experience with vehicles in the Caribbean just not having seat belts. They exist; they just don't work. Into the ergo carrier Juliet went. Luckily I was too tired to really worry about the danger. I just wanted to see our hotel, El Convento. El Convento is a charming hotel, whose previouse life was as a convent. The rooms are small (nuns don't need a lot of space, I guess), but well appointed and cute. The best feature of the hotel is the beautiful central courtyard. It had me wishing we had more time to spend in San Juan.

We lucked out and were able to check in right away. We all crashed out for a few hours to recover from our red eye flight (I'll never take a red eye again). When we came to, we made our way downstairs to the tapas restaurant in the hotel that I had read good things about. Being the San Francisco food snobs that we are, we thought it sucked and was overpriced, but they do make a mean sangria. After dinner we explored old San Juan while our little monkey (who wouldn't sleep on the plane) slept. We got back to the room at 9 and had Juliet sacked out in the crib when housekeeping knocked to see if we wanted turndown service (argh!). About 30 seconds after I opened the door and declined, the front desk called - again about the stupid turndown service (ARGH!!). Needless to say, the sleepy monkey was no longer asleep and ended up snuggling with us and finally fell asleep hours later in our bed. I will never forget to use the Do Not Disturb sign again!
