Michael and I have been on a crusade for a walker for Miss Juliet. We were at CitiKids a couple of weekends ago, because I somehow convinced him to stop there after dim sum (the best in the city) at Ton Kiang. We went to check out walkers and Juliet proved to be ready for one: she walked across the room pushing the little ride-on car that we propped her up behind. We were very excited and decided that we needed to get her a walker of her own immediately (but thought that we could find something better than the ones there).
And so began the madness: After two trips to Target, one to Babys R Us, another to The Ark toy store on 24th, and a call to Peekaboutique on Castro, we ended up with what must b
e one of the most expensive walkers on the market (typical...). We bought the Radio Flyer walker at Ambassador Toys tonight on West Portal. It is so cute and has a built in braking system so that the wagon can't get away from her. J even helped daddy with the wrench (apparently she thought that tasting it was an important part of the assembly process). After Michael read me the long list of tools required, I had to confess that the toy store had a fully assembled wagon, but I declined it over the brand new one in the box - oops. He was a good sport about it, but next time I will make sure to feed him first.
Back to Ambassador Toys - I have been to West Portal countless times in the past four years of working so close by, but this is the first time I entered the store. The place is PACKED with toys and games for every age. I wish it was on this side of town, but it might even be worth the trip over the hill (the walker was a bit less than at The Ark and they have about 10 times as many toys). They have lots of toys from Haba, which are nice toys that you only find at high end toy stores. They also have a great selection of toys on the low end of the price scale (which I need to remember since I am about to see my last paycheck! Better yet, no shopping for me at all).
